FAQ page
Some general FAQs followed by a “How I Work” section
What are the benefits of hiring an experienced and creative filmmaker?
You'll have a living memory of one of the biggest and happiest days of your lives, always. Hiring a wedding videographer will ensure your memories are captured and edited to the highest standards.
How long will you spend on location?
This all depends on the length of the ceremony and speeches but, generally, around 8 to 10 hours.
What happens between the filmmaker and photographer on the day?
Before the whole day starts I will always have a friendly chat with the photographer and figure out the best way to work with each other.
We are both looking for the best possible shots but both have very different jobs on the day.
When the photographer is doing the formal shots, which can be between 10 and 30 setups, I will film this part for a short period of time. This is because, at that point, my aim is to move around the venue to capture candid shots. Formal static poses do not translate well onto film so I only use the shots where there is movement, either in between the posing or if the photographer gets the groups laughing/doing fun movements.
Can I use mainstream music?
No. Due to UK licensing laws, I can only use licensed music from subscribed-to sources.
How long does it take to get the final package? What does that process involve?
Depending on the time of year our turnaround time is between 8 and 16 weeks. Each film is painstakingly edited in real-time with adjustments to the sound, colour correction, and export time (turning the footage into a file that can be uploaded to a streaming service). Once the Full feature edit is done you will receive an online proof of your full-feature wedding film and after you have watched it you will either approve it or send some minor changes through our online approval form. I do aim to have your film done within the estimated time and I love to take my time when editing to ensure the best possible quality and creativity has gone into each wedding film.
What should you expect from the finished product?
You’ll receive an online showcase via the streaming service Vimeo. All films will be downloadable.
Why are you different?
As mentioned in a lot of my blurb, I consider myself an artist with a passion for filmmaking. I have been working in the creative industry since 2001. I started off as a graphic designer working for marketing and advertising agencies from Scotland to New Zealand. In 2010, I joined the wedding industry and I have never looked back.
I have a decade's experience in the creative industry and natural artistic talent. On top of that, I have over a decade's experience in successfully filming weddings.
I'd be happy to continue blowing my own trumpet but it'll save a lot of time just having a gander at my work, it speaks for itself :)
AND HERE IS HOW I WORK
Preps.
I’ll turn up to the main preps around 3 hours before the ceremony. I’ll have a quick chat with everyone, then start some candid filming like a ninja. This normally takes around 30 to 40 mins, during which I’ll capture some detail shots of the dresses/kilts, flowers, etc, and family and friends having fun and getting make-up.
Ceremony.
After the preps I’ll head to where the ceremony will be taking place, chat to the officiant and staff then set up my cameras on their tripods. When the first partner shows up, I’ll attach a small mic recorder to their lapel or dress (garment permitting). I’ll then start filming the guests arriving.
Candids.
After filming the ceremony and everyone has exited the ceremony area, I’ll ninja-film the guests mingling. I’ll do this for around 30 mins and also dip in and out of the family photoshoot to get the chatty and happy bits in between the poses. Always lovely stuff at this point.
Creative shoot.
After the wedding party shoot, the photographer and I will take the couple for a wander somewhere nearby. I’ll get the nice, natural shots in between the photo poses. This is when I get creative and sometimes quite excited if the light is awesome. I always share well with the photographer and never step on their toes.
Speeches.
Once I’ve acquired tonnes of candid shots, I’ll head over to the dining area and set up my cameras in discreet positions, normally as far from the action as possible as I have long lenses. Each speaker will be given a lapel recorder mic before everyone is called for dinner and speeches. Once the speeches are complete, I’ll down tools and have a break with the photographer.
Dancing.
After dinner, the guests will be mingling and merry, so I’ll be capturing those happy moments until around 15 minutes before the first dance. I’ll have my cameras set up in discreet positions at the side of the dance floor ready to capture the first dance and 4 dances after that. Once the first dance is done, I love to get creative, so you might see me weaving my way through the dance floor with a wee camera.
The Highlights.
You’ll receive the highlights video via a Vimeo link first, which is downloadable and shareable. I’ll also send a 90-second portrait version specifically for social media platforms.
The Cinematic Film.
You’ll receive this film via Vimeo link the day after you get your highlights. Again, this one is downloadable and shareable.
The Full Feature.
After receiving either the Cinematic film and the Highlights, I’d email the Vimeo link to the epic, full-length version the day after.
Once the Full Feature film has been finalised, you’ll receive a Vimeo Showcase Page, a shareable presentation web page containing all of your films, all of which will be downloadable.
If there are any frequently asked questions you think aren’t here, please get in touch and I will answer them. If you’d like to chat please feel free to call or WhatsApp.
“The general consensus from everyone we have shown our wedding video to so far has ranged from “This is the best wedding video I have ever seen" to “this is the best thing I have ever seen, ever"!”
